The magic of a vineyard, the talent of an oenologist

Falua has just presented the new reference of the emblematic rolled pebble vineyard: Conde Vimioso Vinha do Convento Branco 2019, a wine that comes to market to continue the premium segment of wines of the brand, with a limited edition and numbered. A wine with the signature of winemaker Antonina Barbosa.

There is a curious and observant look, combined with a willingness to surprise, and a captivating smile, which are natural characteristics of the winemaker Antonina Barbosa. He joined Falua in 2004, and there he did everything a little until he became the company's ceo. More concerned with working than with the spotlight, the stage however calls it whenever it wins awards for its wines or professional merit, facts that increasingly highlight it as one of the best national wineologists. Having not been a scientist as I wished, and having discovered in the wines a passion, he brought to this area the curiosity of those who want to study, discover and go further. This is what it has done with its wines, namely this new reference from a rolled pebble vineyard, on the floor of Charneca, where the Tagus River passed more than 400,000 years ago.

An unusual vineyard in Portugal that, in the case of Falua, goes up to four meters deep, remaining the stones in its constitution at least up to 12 meters. Because it is a poor and sandy soil, more acidic, allows the varieties to behave differently in this vineyard in relation to neighboring plants. "The grapes have good ripenings and maintain their acidity/freshness. This fact, complemented with a good concentration, gives rise to wines of great elegance, both in terms of aroma and taste", says Antonina Barbosa.

The vineyard, with 25 years of age, has about 45 hectares where there are several varieties, among which a majority of Arinto, Chardonnay and Fernão Pires, in white; and in touriga nacional, castelão, aragonese and cabernet sauvigon paints.


Arinto is caste Queen

This new white, made 100% with the Arinto variety, is bottled in truly exceptional years. Its winemaking includes pelicular maturation of six to seven hours, followed by pressing and maceration for eight days at five degrees of temperature, before alcoholic fermentation, and indigenous yeasts were used. A one-year stage followed in new barrels of 500 liters of French oak. After this period, he spent another year on the lees and then another 15 months in bottle. "It is an elegant wine in aroma, with citrus and mineral notes evident, complemented by light smoked notes. On the palate it is complex and persistent", informs Antonina. "An intense white with great character", concludes the winemaker, also stating that this edition is limited to only 1237 bottles.  



This white appears a year after the launch of Count Vimioso Vinha do Convento Tinto 2017, and tells the story of a unique terroir, of a very original vineyard. It is now on sale in wine cellars and reference restaurants. Your PVP is €87.

It is recalled that Falua was founded in 1994 with the aim of asserting itself as a reference in the production of wines from the Tagus region and, rapidly, grew to other regions.
