Herdade do Freixo came to Lisbon, to the Feitoria restaurant, at Altis Belém Hotel & SPA, to present its name wine, red ART 2016
Situated next to the village of Freixo, between the Serra D'Ossa and Évora, Herdade do Freixo has an author's cellar - signed by architect Frederico Valsassina - perfectly framed in nature and the ecosystem. It is a different winery, which is not seen on arrival, it is underground, built three floors under the vineyard, 20 meters deep.
Art Herdade do Freixo red 2016, is the new red recently launched, a regional Alentejo prepared from the varieties Petit Verdot (50%), Touriga Nacional (40%) and Alicante Bouschet (10%), implanted in shale and granite solsos, which filled 3,250 bottles. Signed by the oenology of Diogo Lopes and Xabier Kamio, art herdade do Freixo red 2016 aims to honor all art forms in general and, above all, those of nature. This super premium wine results from the best grapes of Herdade do Freixo and aged 14 months in French oak barrels (500 L), of fine toast, preserving fruit and elegance, and enhancing the expression of terroir. After the internship, three years of maturation in the basement followed.
"The particular freshness and elegance of this batch gives it ideal characteristics to accompany delicate fusion dishes and Mediterranean cuisine, where the most natural and genuine flavors of the ingredients shine. ART is also suitable for accompanying sweet cheeses and desserts", Highlights winemaker Diogo Lopes. Ruby in color, with rich and complex aroma, mineral, fruity and with notes of spice, it is very structured in the mouth, complex, with firm tannins, tuned and silky. It ends with a long end of mouth.
The new label makes known the first esquisso of the winery (Archdaily Architecture Award 2015 by Frederico Valsassina) as a way to preserve the surrounding nature of the property, "designed during the creative process of development of the underground winery of Herdade do Freixo", says Carolina Tomé, commercial and marketing director. The drawing also illustrates the cover of the book 'Adega Herdade do Freixo', released by Usina publishing house. A work that includes the description of the concept of the project, both in terms of architecture and design, as well as the ambition in the production of "wines of excellence, distinct and surprising".
During the event, were also presented the new harvests of Freixo red reserve 2017 and Family Collection red 2017, the White Freixo Reserva 2018 and the Freixo rosé Special Edition 2020. Chef João Rodrigues was responsible for harmonizing the wines with the delicacies and the wine service was in charge of André Figuinha and his room team. A task that has certainly been facilitated by the profile of these wines that, although different from each other, maintain the global philosophy of being fresh, mineral, striking and very gastronomic. Among the range of wines, in addition to the novelty paint, the rosé Freixo Special Edition 2020 has just stood out, since it is also one of the latest releases of Herdade do Freixo, and the first wine of a new range, which will evolve to the launch of a white Riesling and a red of Petite Sirah during the year 2022. It is a premium rosé originated in the tear must, without pressing, of the best grapes of Touriga Nacional da Herdade do Freixo. Very delicate, fresh, floral, engaging and elegant.
All wines are now available in wine cellars and landmark restaurants, at El Corte Inglés' El Gourmet and apolónia shops in the Algarve.
