A&D Wines: a consolidated project

Six years after the presentation of the project, A&D Wines takes a prominent place in the production of quality wines in Baião, region of Vinhos Verdes. The way will always be to produce wine, respecting nature.

Quinta de Santa Teresa belongs to the couple of electrotechnical engineers Alexandre Gomes and Dialina Azevedo, who decided to revitalize family traditions in the area of wine. This property, which they acquired in 2015 to complement their project, allowed the increase in wine production.

Quinta de Santa Teresa today has 66 hectares of vineyards that has been certified in organic production mode over the years. This respect for nature is revealed by the type of agriculture practiced, but also by preventive action in order to allow the natural balance of the soil and surrounding ecosystem. In this way, biodiversity is getting richer and richer, and the whole environment more resilient to better withstand the challenges of the future.

The consistent path they have been taking has been once again revealed with the launch of new harvests: Quinta de Santa Teresa Rosé 2021; Quinta de Santa Teresa Avesso 2021; Singular Quinta de Santa Teresa 2019; and Carved Quinta de Santa Teresa 2020) and a novelty, Quinta de Santa Teresa Essência 2020 (a first edition fermented in barricade, since another wine was previously launched with the brand Monologue and with fermentation in stainless steel).  

When they acquired the property, Alexandre Gomes and Dialina Azevedo realized the potential of this property: "We found that this Farm, even due to its geographical characteristics, has great potential to produce quality white wines. The terroir of this Farm is special and unique by the combination of a granite soil with a climate of transition from the Atlantic to the continental climate of the Douro that offers good thermal amplitudes. These characteristics allow us to produce complex, balanced, elegant wines with a vibrant freshness and acidity, where the native avesso variety is enhanced." But it was not always like this, since the farm was very mistreated and had no organic production "the land had no ladybugs, had no flowers, nature could not express itself. That is why we knew the production of organic wine was the way forward, and it is an increasingly present trend in agriculture worldwide. We are very pleased with the results," says Dialina.  

The oenology team consists of the duo Fernando Moura and Ana Pinto. In the cellar, the technology combined with knowledge allows rigorous monitoring and control of the production process, enabling a minimum intervention, to the extent necessary for the production of quality wines, with a sense of place, full of character and capable of evolving for long years.

Wines that surprise


Despite their different profiles, A&D Wines wines have the common characteristic of being very fresh and mineral, always surprising by their high level of quality, elegance and balance. A profile that has conquered the Portuguese market, but even more the foreign market, since A&D Wines exports about 80% of its production.




Quinta de Santa Teresa Rosé 2021 is produced with the Touriga Nacional and Vinhão varieties, planted in the upper dimensions of the Quinta, above 400m of altitude, with partial stage in wood. Slightly pink in color, it is floral and mineral, fresh and bulky, in a dry and persistent profile .b.

Quinta de Santa Teresa Avesso 2021 comes from a vineyard with north exposure, resulting elegant and structured by the stainless steel stage on the fine lees. In the nose is citrus and with slight vegetable notes. On the palate it is fresh but unctuous, already with some structure and slightly spicy.

The Singular Quinta de Santa Teresa 2019 is a blend that combines several varieties, especially The Inside Out, Arinto, Malvasia Fina, Alvarinho and Rabigato. Vinified mostly in stainless steel, with about 20% of the wine to ferment and aged in barrica, it is a floral and citrus wine in the aroma, structured and with excellent acidity in the palate, ending persistent.

The Carved Quinta de Santa Teresa 2020 is produced from the oldest vineyards of the property and fermented in oak barrels. On the nose it is elegant and complex, with notes of white fruit and spice. On the palate it is concentrated, structured, with well-married wood.

Finally, Quinta de Santa Teresa Essência 2020 ferments and interns in a barrica, combining the acidity and freshness of the Avesso variety with a round character, resulting from the 16 grams of residual sugar. The nose is expressive, with notes of ripe white fruit and spice. Complex and voluminous on the palate, it is an original wine and very interesting, combining very well sweetness and acidity.
