Maria João de Almeida has been licensed in Communication since 1995, having specialized in the wine area. He was a journalist at TVI and joined the paintings of expresso for more than a decade. He often collaborates with several publications and is a jury member of several national and international wine and gastronomy competitions.

She is the author of books, including Memories of Wine (classified as a work of cultural interest by the Ministry of Culture), Guide of Wine tourism in Portugal (awarded as the Best in the World at the Gourmand Awards), Wine at Ponta da Língua e Vinho à Mesa (winner of the 1st Portugal CookBook Fair 'Wine Book' award, promoted by APEL - Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers, and BrandScape). In 2016, he received the special award 'Wine Criticism', by Paixão pela Vinho Magazine.

He was decorated by the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Santo Urbano and São Vicente and is a member of the prestigious Port Wine Brotherhood. She taught in the postgraduate course of Marketing of Enoturism, at lusophone University, of which she was also founder. It is Certified Port Educator, formed by IVDP - Porto and Douro Wine Institute. In 2009, it launched its website, and VinhoTV, the first television channel dedicated to wine on the web.

She is also the author of documentaries for television, wine course trainer, lecture speaker, coordinates wine tourism trips in partnership with Madeira Connection, is a TAP consultant in the choice of wines on board and, more recently, since July 2018, lidl consultant in the wine area.
