A new winery was recently inaugurated at the Herdade da Rocha, in Crato, in Portalegre, as well as a small munumento / structure named 'Retiro da Paz', two distinct projects but inserted in the same dream of making the homestead an wine tourism and meditation project. José Ramos Horta, former president of East Timor and Nobel Peace Prize in 1996; was present, was honored and spoke about the importance of peace.
Mário Rocha is an entrepreneur in the area of furniture and owner of these lands, where the whole family is involved and participates. The new winery, started in 2014 and now completed, has Mária Rocha - the businessman's daughter - as head of winetourism. In fact, the winery with about 2000m2 in the underground part and at ground level was built thinking about this area, with an area at the top that allows people to take wine and conference tests.
In addition to the wines, there is also a very strong artistic aspect, since several artists have been challenged to paint/create pieces that are exhibited on site. The new winery and the structure 'Retiro da Paz' complement the offer of The Estate da Rocha, already with 12 hectares of vineyard and a concept of local themed accommodation dedicated to the olive tree.
