Vesúvio Open Doors

Quinta do Vesúvio, belonging to the Symington family, is now open to wine tourism until 31 October. The experience includes jeep tour in the vineyards, visit to the centenary winery, wine tastings and also a lunch on the balcony of the manor house.

It is one of the largest farms in the Douro region and one of the inseparable places in the history of Port wine. Acquired by the Symington family in 1989, Quinta do Vesuvius, a property whose access has been given to very few over several years, now opens its doors to an exclusive wine tourism experience. Until October 31, it is possible to get to know the farm, with a group of a maximum of six people, through an exclusive program that has a jeep tour in the vineyards, a visit to the wine cellar of the property, wine tastings and also a break for a lunch on the balcony of the manor house, with a privileged view of the Douro landscape.

Designed for small groups of visitors, the wine tourism experience of Quinta do Vesúvio integrates different moments, starting at 10:00 am. Guests are welcomed to the secular property with refreshments served in the gardens. The itinerary continues with a jeep tour of the vineyards. The moment is led by a guide who will show the main plots of vineyards, make known the terroir, as well as other of its unique characteristics that allow the production of high quality wines, and also the sharing of stories and curiosities about the farm.

The visit continues later in the winery, one of the largest in the Douro, completed in 1827. With eight granite mills, this is one of the rare places where you still take the walk, with the traditional lagaradas, an art practiced for centuries. In the end, the tasting is followed, which includes three vintage port wines – 1994, 2003 and 2011 – as well as two DOC Douro: Quinta do Vesúvio 2011 and Pombal do Vesúvio.

After a packed morning, the visitor is still entitled to a lunch, which will be served on the balcony of the house. It starts with a Tonic Port, followed by an starter dish, main course (there are three choices available: fish, meat or vegetarian) and salad, and at the end cheeses, fruits and desserts. These proposals are always harmonized with wines from the Symington family portfolio. Information and reservations:
