WOW: A big step in wine tourism

The old port wine cellars in the historic area of Vila Nova de Gaia were recovered to honor the most important Portuguese industries and traditions. More than visiting several museums, WOW compiles the history, magic and emotions behind Portuguese wine, the ritual of glasses and the cork industry.

There are five museums, eight restaurants and cafes, an exhibition space and many event spaces. Joining all this is a large square with an unobstructed view over the Douro River and the city of Porto. This is the offer that the winetourist who visits Gaia finds in the new wine block of the Fladgate Partnership group, an investment of more than 100 million euros that reinforces its position as a destination of choice in the area of wine tourism.

The opening took place on July 31 and began with a video mapping show to mark the event. The experiences opened the next day for all visitors. "The goal is to strengthen the cultural and museological offer, providing more good reasons to live the city. In addition, with the experiences we intend to highlight the potential of the region in the areas in which it specializes: in wine and cork, in the textile industry and in fashion. There is a huge know-how that we should value," explains Adrian Bridge. "The opening party is scheduled for when we find it prudent and responsible. We will open in a phased way and count the visit of all, with the certainty that we are prepared to receive everyone safely", stresses the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of WOW.

Adrian Bridge, CEO of WOW

WOW is located in the heart of Vila Nova de Gaia's old town, between the river and The Yeatman hotel. There are several entrances in Rua do Choupelo and another in Rua Cândido dos Reis. There are several restaurants, and museum experiences where you can get to know better the production of wine, the styles of Port wine, harmonize wine with chocolate and also visit The Bridge Collection, a private collection of undoubted value and world interest. There are more than 1500 canisters that tell the story of humanity through the ritual of drinking. Each copy tells a story and it will be possible to go back to the year 7000 BC.

The remaining experiences, Planet Cork and the Porto Fashion & Fabric Museum, the Wine School and other dining venues will open in a phased fashion in the coming months. New and good reasons to visit and revisit WOW are foreseen.

Access to the block is completely free. To buy tickets for the Experiences, simply access the online ticket office in wow.pt or go to the ticket offices directly on site. There are prices for individual visits, experience packages, family visits, group or schools.
